Rhoyal is one of those drummers who you can never get a hold of....because he's always playing! I'm still trying to get a hold of him to get a bio out of him, but in the meantime, check out his www.myspace.com/rhoyalbaibe. He's quite amazing! In addition to being a drummer, Rhoyal is a composer and has an incredible voice. (He's the guy you hear doing falsetto on the Bonus Track, Sleepy Air Traffic Control). He has worked with the best of the best.
Another interesting aside: Rhoyal grew up in the Haight-Ashbury District of San Francisco and was a childhood friend of Patrick Fleming. When the two of them did combo solos on percussion for my CD, it was magic. You can't manufacture a sound like that! It was great to see them play together, after all these years.
"I remember when I played with Rhoyal in San Francisco (Patrick made me get up and play with him at a jazz club..I think we did Summertime), I could tell I was working with a master. He has a background in Heavy Metal, which I also liked. It brought a different kind of tone to his playing than a "standard" jazz drummer. Rhoyal added sooo much to the CD (including "Rock & Roll" - inside joke!). Every time I hear it, I hear new things that he did! He really made my music come alive. Thanks, Rhoyal." -- Monica Ashton
